Did You Know? The Monopoly Auction Rule

Monopoly. Been Playing It Wrong?

Hi, I’m Carrie, and on today’s Did You Know? we’re talking about Monopoly. And something most people don’t know about the game. That they’ve been playing it the wrong way.

Did You Know?

Monopoly, the game that’s caused family arguments for generations, and the game everyone says takes way too long. But here’s the thing. It usually takes forever because of one important rule almost nobody follows. It’s called the auction rule. Anytime a player lands on a property and doesn’t buy it, that property is supposed to be auctioned off to the highest bid made by any of the players. When that rule is followed, properties get bought faster and the game moves along and monopoly actually ends. Now you can own Boardwalk without ever landing on Boardwalk. So hopefully this makes your next family game night a little more fun and a lot less violent. See you next time on Did You Know.
